DECON-X Vapor Phase Cleaning - Easy Calculation Guide

Quickly estimate how much DECON-X you need for refinery decontamination using our proven calculation method, backed by 20 years of experience.

Step 1: Calculate the Vessel Volume

Let's use an example of a crude atmospheric tower:

  • Height: 30 meters
  • Diameter: 7 meters
  • Internal structure: 40 trays, all of a bubble-cap design

Use the formula to calculate tower volume (without taking account of the dished-ends):

V=pi x Rx L

V=3.14 x (3.5)x 30=1,154m3

Step 2: Determine the DECON-X Requirement

We recommend 4 liters of DECON-X per cubic meter of column or vessel internal volume. Therefore, the volume of DECON-X required would be:

1,154 x 4=4,616 liters

Since 1 drum of DECON-X = 208 liters, the total drum requirement is:

4,616 / 208=22 drums

Step 3: Comparing to Liquid Circulation

If using a traditional liquid circulation method:

  • Filling 20% of the column to cover the trays and provide a positive pump suction will require:
    • 1,154 x 20%=230m3
  • Using a 2% DECON-X concentration:
    • 230 x 0.02=4.6m3 (or 22 drums of DECON-X)

Why Choose Vapor Phase?

  • Cuts decontamination time by 2/3 compared to liquid circulation.
  • No liquid disposal required, reducing environmental impact.
  • More efficient and cost-effective, with faster equipment turnaround.
